Celebrity Chef’s contribute to Connecting Hands’ Food for Hope Cookbook

Ian Curley Executive Chef at The European will be launching Connecting Hands’ Food For Hope Cookbook on Thursday November 1st at Bopha Devi Restaurant in Melbourne’s Docklands. The cookbook is an initiative of Connecting Hands who aims to raise money to rehabilitate victims of sexual trafficking in Cambodia.

After spending time with the brave young women and children in Cambodia, sisters Deb and Kate decided that more needed to be done to support young survivors of trafficking and sexual slavery in Cambodia, and so they formed Connecting Hands.

Soon after Deb had a vision to design a cookbook featuring Australian celebrity cooks and chefs who would show their support in standing against trafficking and sexual slavery by contributing recipes to the “Food for Hope” cookbook.  Connecting Hands were fortunate enough to have more than 15 celebrity contributions, including Pete Evans, Matt Preston, Maggie Beer, Poh Ling Leow, Neil Perry and Julie Goodwin. Food For Hope was created with the help of Adrian LaPira from Hush Creative Designs, who donated his time to bring the book together.

Connecting Hands’ primary goal is to assist in the rehabilitation of young women and children who have escaped from lives of daily torture through sexual slavery. Connecting Hands aims to give these young women and children the opportunity and environment to support their recovery and rehabilitation from this horrible crime.

All funds raised from the sale of the cookbook will go directly towards opening a teaching café in Cambodia to support survivors of sexual slavery and provide them with important hospitality skills that may help to break the cycle of poverty, which is fundamental to the issue of sexual slavery.

Connecting Hands are also planning the opening of further teaching cafes in Cambodia as well as a café in Melbourne which will help to provide much needed funds to rehabilitation programs both in Cambodia and Australia.
