Empowering women with life skills
Connecting Hands Training Cafe
Connecting Hands is opening a training restaurant/cafe for young women who have been victims of trafficking and sexual slavery in Cambodia.
Connecting Hands works with rehabilitated young women and provides them with vocational training within the hospitality industry as a cook/chefs.
In addition to the providing training, Connecting Hands will take financial responsibility of all our trainees and provide them with a protected and safe environment, access to meals, medical care and a training allowance.
On completion of their training we will assist women to find paid permanent employment using their newly established skills. By doing so we assist in empowering women to create a future for themselves, away from poverty, prostitution, human-trafficking & slavery and give them hope for a brighter future.
Connecting Hands will continue to support the young women who receive training from the teaching cafe long after training us completed to ensure that we follow up on their new working conditions, family situations etc. Our aim is to support young women in their emotional and professional development and give them a real chance in rebuilding their new lives.
The training program will be free for the trainees. The costs of running the program is subsidised through the cafes income and generous sponsorship from our supporters.
Based on the principle of helping others to help themselves, all measures will be taken for Connecting Hands Teaching Cafe to become self supporting as quickly as possible therefore not being reliant on long term support from donors.
Funds raised through the Connecting Hands Cafe will go back in to developing reintegration activities to support vulnerable young families in Cambodia & prevent the re occurrence of trafficking.
Connecting Hands also would like to open a Cafe in Melbourne, Australia and the objective of this cafe will be to financially support our Overseas Programs with a strong emphasis on advocacy & engaging the Australian Public to support our work in Cambodia and abroad.
As Connecting Hands is committed to providing outreach support to trafficking victims living in Melbourne, we would like to offer the opportunity to support trafficking victims living in Melbourne with meals, training and ongoing support for their families.
We have some exciting news!
Our supporters have been a big part of making this possible and we wanted to share the exciting news with you.
We still have a long way to go and some pretty big targets to meet before June 10th
As you can see from the pictures it doesn’t look like a cafe as yet, and we desperately need some help in getting it up to scratch. We have a contractor on the ground and are going back to Cambodia next month to start the renovations and fit out.
Not only do we need help with the costs of tables, chairs, fridges, freezers, ovens etc but we need to also set up accommodation for the young trainees who will be benefiting from this amazing traineeship opportunity.
We would love for you to be an integral part of this amazing journey and you can be by donating an item towards the actual cafe set up. We have itemised all the items we need and if you donate the cost of one of these items we are committed to ensuring your name goes on the item with a small plaque saying “donated by Jack Smith”. For example is you purchase a table or oven, your name will be on a small plaque highlighting that you have donated this item.
How wonderful would it be to fit out the cafe and have your name permanently there as a reminder to all who visit and dine there that you have played a really valuable role in empowering the lives of young women who have escaped terribly lives of slavery & abuse.
All donations are 100% tax deductible which is handy with the end of financial year fast approaching!
To make your donation, simply select the item you would like to purchase from the updated list on our website, make the payment via one of our payment options here and then shoot us a quick email to let us know what you have purchased and the name you would like on your plaque. Exciting!
We would really appreciate your support, every knife & spoon really makes a big difference (for larger items a great way to afford on of these items is to put in with a group of friends or colleagues, even hold a fundraiser)
